3D Rugs
3D Rugs is a collection of four rugs created through a close collaboration between Nina van Bart and CsignLab of CSRugs. Throughout the project, Nina van Bart contributed her expertise by offering innovative perspectives on the newly developed 3D tufting technique. She provided creative ideas and tested various methods, resulting in a balanced series of rugs inspired by textures from nature and architecture from the Dutch landscape, creating a tactile effect with great visual impact in our spaces.
3D Textures
Studio Nina van Bart explores all aspects of surface materials in architecture and assists manufacturers and material brands in rethinking fabrication processes and applications. The aim is to create architectural surfaces that are functional, innovative, and evoke a distinctive atmosphere in our surroundings through colour and texture. In a series of 3D rugs, Studio Nina van Bart introduces alternative approaches to a newly developed 3D tufting technique by CS Rugs, exploring various procedures, high-quality yarns, and colour combinations. The designs are inspired by textures found in nature and architecture, capturing elements from the Dutch landscape. Initial findings are obtained through both manual and digital drawings, which are then refined digitally in 3D software. The manual process in creating nature-based textures allows for a visible human touch, contrasting with the more graphic approach of digital drawing techniques. Following the drawing phase, Nina van Bart conducts research that often challenges existing techniques and procedures, integrating technical and architectural aspects such as size, proportion, acoustics, sunlight and shadow, and spatiality. These voluminous rugs make a strong visual impact in a space. Their textured nature also enhances acoustic properties, benefiting the acoustics of interiors. Available as both floor coverings and wall hangings, these 3D rugs can be customised in terms of size, colour, and shape, tailored to suit the preferences and intended use of clients.
” I am focusing on details such as colours, textures, and yarns, which have an impact on the overall experience of our spaces and influence both the aesthetics and functional qualities. “
